Flemish author Dimitri Verhulst at Vryfees in Bloemfontein

Flemish author Dimitri Verhulst will attend the Vryfees arts festival in Bloemfontein from 10 to 13 July, where he will be a panellist in a number of talks in the framework of the literature festival. After the screening of the film Problemski Hotel, based on the book by Verhulst, he will discuss the process of turning the book into a screenplay.

Dimitri Verhulst will be a panellist in the following panel sessions:

Asylum-seekers in Europe – a tragic existence; 10 July 10:30 at the Netwerk24 Feeskafee

A journey from Dutch to Afrikaans; 12 July, 10:30 at the Netwerk24 Feeskafee

Migration is nothing new – how is it described in the twenty-first century?; 12 July 16:30 at the ATKV-Boeke-oase

Problemski Hotel film screening, followed by the session Problemski Hotel, from life to page to screen; 13 July 13:00 at the Film Studio

Government of Flanders supports a Viva Africa project for HIV prevention in Mozambique

The Government of Flanders has decided to allocate 350.000 euros to ngo Viva Africa for the ‘Improving women’s health’ project in Mozambique. The project focuses on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), HIV treatment and a Human Papillomavirus (HPV) screening. The project is being rolled out across the regions Maputo City, Machava and Matola.

On Friday 1 June we hosted a reception in honour of the day of the Flemish Community, co-hosted by the General Representative Dr. Geraldine Reymenants and Trade and Investment Counsellor Mr. Marc Schiltz. Guest speakers Dr. Monde Tom from the Economic Development Department and H.E. Ambassador Lallie from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation spoke about the strong ties between the Governments of South Africa and Flanders. Colleagues, partners, compatriots and friends enjoyed the day - celebrated annually in Flanders on 11 July in remembrance of the Battle of the Golden Spurs – with some traditional frites and mayonnaise and some great Belgian beers!
