New grant for continuation of cooperation between NYDA and Flanders

1139

On 2 May, the Flemish minister for Culture, Youth, Media and Sport, Sven Gatz, approved a new grant to the National Youth Development Agency. The grant goes towards the implementation of a project to promote and up-scale youth volunteering in civil society organisations in South Africa. The project seeks to cultivate an enabling environment so that youth volunteering can flourish in civil society organisations and is intended to help develop a culture of volunteering in South Africa by providing quality volunteering opportunities for young people.

Flemish development cooperation explores new direction

1046
On 18 April the first States-General of the Flemish development cooperation took place in Brussels. This meeting was intended as an open dialogue on how Flanders can integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into the Flemish development cooperation. Minister-president Bourgeois invited 120 stakeholders of the Flemish development cooperation for a debate. Keynote speakers Erik Solheim (Chairman of OECD / DAC) and Patrick Gomes (Secretary General of the group of ACP countries) provided the global perspective.

MP Bourgeois and President Nyusi approve 3rd Country Strategy Mozambique

1283
On 21 April, Minister-president Geert Bourgeois met the President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, in Brussels. On their agenda was the approval of the third country strategy for development cooperation in Mozambique. With this new strategy Flanders commits itself to an annual grant of 5 million euro for health care in Mozambique for the period 2016 – 2020. Both Governments make the explicit choice to focus these resources on adolescents, with an emphasis on adolescent girls (10-19 years). Mozambican teenage girls are very vulnerable in terms of sexual and reproductive health. They have a high risk of catching hiv-infection and of maternal mortality.

Partner meeting in Mozambique

1587

On 23 November 2015, the Government of Flanders organised a partner meeting to discuss the results and success of the development cooperation programme in Mozambique that ran from 2011 to 2015. The meeting was well attended and partners discussed the different projects implemented by governmental and non-governmental organisations, both national and international.

The Government of Flanders supports projects in Mozambique aimed at the creation of better health systems, the motivation of technical staff in the Tete province, and innovation in sexual and reproductive health and training of nutritionists. We thank all our partners for their efforts, patience, creativity, coordination and cooperation!
