On Friday 1 June we hosted a reception in honour of the day of the Flemish Community, co-hosted by the General Representative Dr. Geraldine Reymenants and Trade and Investment Counsellor Mr. Marc Schiltz. Guest speakers Dr. Monde Tom from the Economic Development Department and H.E. Ambassador Lallie from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation spoke about the strong ties between the Governments of South Africa and Flanders. Colleagues, partners, compatriots and friends enjoyed the day - celebrated annually in Flanders on 11 July in remembrance of the Battle of the Golden Spurs – with some traditional frites and mayonnaise and some great Belgian beers!
Ghent University will launch a South African Alumni Chapter later this year. Get in touch with their International Relations Office if you want to be a part of this.
On 5 and 6 March, Minister-president Geert Bourgeois received the minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development of Malawi, Joseph Mwanamvekha in Flanders, following the Minister-president’s visit to Malawi in August 2017. On 23 February, the Government of Flanders granted 900,000 euros to the Flanders – ILO Trust Fund. This contribution enables funding for new projects of the International Labor Organisation in the period 2018-2019. The Flanders-ILO Trust Fund, created in 2001, receives Flemish funds on a biennial basis.
The General Representation wishes you all the best for the new year!
