Jan Martens' Rule of three at KKNK

Flemish choreographer Jan Martens brings Rule of Three to the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunsfees, a contemporary dance piece that defines itself as something in between a concert and a short story collection.


Rule of Three takes as its starting point our ability to zap in a flash from one impression to another. A sequence of scenes echoes the fragmentary experience of reality that is the consequence of this overload of stimuli. It is a collection of short stories, written with bodies, light, music, costumes and text. Jan Martens collaborates for the very first time with American producer and drummer NAH, whose music blends live and programmed drums with found sounds and heavily manipulated samples. The performers engage in a dialogue with NAH’s eclectic musical composition and keep driving up the sensory stimulation.

Third Country Strategy Paper with Malawi launched in Lilongwe

On the 25th of February 2019, the General Representation of the Government of Flanders in South Africa launched the third Country Strategy Paper (2019 – 2023) for Development Cooperation between Flanders and Malawi in Lilongwe. More than 60 participants joined for this successful event, amongst whom government officials, local partners and international donors. Guest of honour was Joseph Mwanamvekha, Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development.

On the 14th of February, our office celebrates 20 years in South Africa!

A trade office for Flanders had already been established in Johannesburg and Cape Town as early as 1 January 1994. It would however take another 5 years before the first General Representative of the Government of Flanders (known as the Counsellor for the Flemish Community), Mr. Yves Wantens, took up the post in Pretoria. was succeeded by Mr. David Maenaut, whose mandate ran from September 2008 to July 2014. His successor, since July 2014, is Dr. Geraldine Reymenants.

On 10 and 11 January the General Representative of the Government of Flanders, Dr. Geraldine Reymenants, participated in the third Ministerial PAGE Conference, in Cape Town, South Africa, where she advocated for more ambitious action to reduce our carbon footprint. The PAGE Conference brought together political leaders, UN agencies, civil society representatives and practitioners to discuss successes and challenges regarding the transition to a green and inclusive economy in their respective countries. Participants discussed themes such as social inclusion, circular economy, green finance and sustainable consumption and production.
