SA-EU Community Arts Centres Dialogue in Durban

The SA-EU Dialogue Facility aims to strengthen the relationship between the EU and South Africa by providing support for existing and emerging policy dialogues. Within this framework, the Shukuma Mzansi III SA-EU Community Arts Centres Dialogue took place on 2-3 March in Port Elizabeth, and on 5-6 March in Durban. The focus of the workshops was on the development of community arts and cultural centres/programmes and the role of cultural policy in advancing community arts centres. This event was the third, and final, of a series launched in 2017, with the participation of experts from Flanders, Ireland and France. It has included study trips to Europe and, reciprocally, visits to South Africa from representatives of European Community Arts Centres.

This last workshop brought the dialogue to the provinces of South Africa. The Flemish delegate was Stef Van Bellingen, curator and director of WARP Contemporary Art Platform in Sint-Niklaas.
