Women's Month in Mozambique
Flanders Representative - South Africa 1985

Women's Month in Mozambique

Mozambique celebrates Women's Month from 8 March (International Women's Day) to 7 April (Women’s Day in Mozambique) under the theme of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. During this time, the General Representation of the Government of Flanders joins with various embassies and diplomatic missions in Mozambique to support activities and events around gender (equality) and equal opportunities. Together with the Belgian Diplomatic Office in Mozambique, Flanders participates by supporting the project “Promoting the sexual and reproductive health rights of girls and women”.

The project is run by NGO Ntumbuluku Association, and aims to increase awareness of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, including family planning, amongst the girls and community members of the Matola Rio administrative post in Boane District (Maputo Province). Several workshops will take place for a variety of participants (activists, community leaders, journalists, family planning providers and police), and community awareness-raising campaigns will be implemented.

The project launch took place on 16 March, in the presence of Mrs. Claudine Aelvoet, Head a.i. of the Belgian Diplomatic Office, and Flanders’ financial officer in Mozambique, Mrs. Elisa Lunghi.

We recall the motto of the United Nations for 2021 World Women's Day, that we want to promote throughout Women's Month: "Women in leadership: Achieving a future of equality in a world with COVID 19".
