On 12 October the Governments of South Africa and Flanders held their 6th Annual Consultation on Development Cooperation in Pretoria. Delegations of the governments of South Africa and Flanders discussed the implementation of ongoing development cooperation programmes. South African government departments and agencies presented results and challenges, and partners discussed the way forward.

Country Strategy Paper II (2011-2016) mainly focused on job creation, SME development, social entrepreneurship and social innovation with the ultimate objective of reducing poverty, unemployment and inequality.

CSP III (2017-2021) focuses on climate change adaptation and an inclusive green economy as a means for South Africa’s transition to a climate resilient and inclusive society. The Government of Flanders has committed to provide 25 million euros over the 5-year period for the development cooperation with South Africa. The programme will be implemented in a multi-actor approach including government, civil society, multilateral organisations and academia.
