On 24-26 March, Flemish Minister Matthias Diependaele visited Malawi, where he met with President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo and Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale, among others, to discuss the main strands of the new programme for international cooperation between Flanders and Malawi. He also visited successful projects, supported by Flanders, of Farm Radio Mw and Ziweto Enterprises Limited, as well as of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.

Malawi is one of the least developed countries in the world and is suffering severely from the effects of climate change. The new country strategy paper 2024-2028 therefore will focus on urban development, including the rural hinterland, the commercialisation of agriculture and climate-smart agriculture.
