The EU Delegation in Malawi is hosting the 1st European Film Festival in the country. The finest of European cinema is showcased, alongside a selection of Malawian short films. The Flemish film 'King of the Belgians' will open the festival on 4 October at the Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe, and will further be showed on 12 October at the Jacaranda Cultural Centre in Blantyre.

From 29 November to 8 December 2019, the 6th edition of the European Film Festival will take place at the Cinema Nouveau in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town. Just as in previous years, South African film enthusiasts will get an opportunity to experience the best in European cinema titles. More info will follow soon!

The Vrystaat Arts Festival takes place from 1-7 July at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein. At this year's edition, two female Flemish writers - Annelies Verbeke and Saskia de Coster - will engage with other writers and the audience in a number of interesting panel discussions.

The European Film Festival in Mozambique celebrates its 18th edition. It will take place at the Centro Cultural Franco-Moçambicano (CCFM) in Maputo from 24 April to 9 May. The Belgian/Flemish contribution for 2019 is the heartwarming Hasta la Vista, directed by Geoffrey Enthoven.

In the framework of the Europe Week festivities in Mozambique, the EU Delegation organises a screening of 'Blush' by Wim Vandekeybus at the FFLC in Maputo on 7 May at 15:00. Blush is a 52-minute feature by choreographer and director Wim Vandekeybus, based on his 2004 successful performance 'Blush'.

Requiem pour L. by Flanders-based Les Ballets C de la B will premiere for South African audiences at the Market Theatre on 28 May, with a further performance on 29 May.

From March to June 2019, contemporary dance from Flanders will hit South African stages. Three of Flanders’ leading dance companies showcase their work in Johannesburg, Oudtshoorn and Cape Town. The first performance will take place on 16 March at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg and brings Jan Martens' Rule of Three to South African audiences.
