Two Flemish bands at Oppikoppi Festival

Two Flemish bands at Oppikoppi Festival

Oppikoppi is one of the biggest multiple day music festivals in South Africa, held in the mining town of Northam in the Limpopo province. The festival this year takes place from 5 to 7 October. It attracts more than 20.000 people each year, who come to enjoy rock or one of the many other music genres on stage. Recently, the festival started a cooperation with the Pukkelpop festival in Flanders. As a result of this cooperation, two Flemish bands are on the line up this year: Sleepers’ Reign and Intergalactic Lovers. You can come and watch both bands on Saturday 7 October: Sleepers’ Reign at 15:00 on the main stage and Intergalactic Lovers at 21:00 on the bruilof stage. For more info, please see: https://www.oppikoppi.co.za/. Tickets are availaible through https://www.festicket.com/festivals/oppikoppi/2017.

On Friday 1 June we hosted a reception in honour of the day of the Flemish Community, co-hosted by the General Representative Dr. Geraldine Reymenants and Trade and Investment Counsellor Mr. Marc Schiltz. Guest speakers Dr. Monde Tom from the Economic Development Department and H.E. Ambassador Lallie from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation spoke about the strong ties between the Governments of South Africa and Flanders. Colleagues, partners, compatriots and friends enjoyed the day - celebrated annually in Flanders on 11 July in remembrance of the Battle of the Golden Spurs – with some traditional frites and mayonnaise and some great Belgian beers!
